Julia started Byron Accounting Services Inc. in early 2018 after working in the Accounting field for 30 years. She holds a BBA in Accounting from James Madison University and holds an active Virginia CPA license. Her last two roles were as CFOs for local companies; one a non-profit in Norfolk supporting the LGBTQ community and one for a Government Contractor in Hampton.
In her role as CFO, Julia took a single person accounting department serving 65 employees to a 11 person department responsible for 850+ employees in 15 states and Japan. During her tenure as CFO, she was also instrumental in the company becoming 100% ESOP and all the reporting requirements that go along with becoming a 100% ESOP company.
Although not a fan of payroll, Julia has become an expert in multi-state payroll. Over the 11 year span that Julia was responsible for the payroll functions, she oversaw two system conversions before finally taking payroll in-house for the last 5 years. Payroll included 15 states and Japan, W/D positions, Health & Welfare calculations, as well as all the normal payroll deductions for federal and state withholdings and unemployment, pre and after tax deductions for employee benefits, garnishments and child supports.
Julia also handled the administration of all the employee benefit programs as well as registering in multiple states for business licenses, department of revenue for state income tax, state income tax withholdings, state unemployment, sales and use tax (where needed) and any local taxing or reporting requirements.
